Kelly Brook conducts £1m farmhouse renovation
Although temporarily stalled on account of protective species issues, Heart DJ, actress and model Kelly Brook is renovating a million pound property in the countryside of Kent, with underfloor heating part of its eco credentials.
An extensive ecology survey discovered two species of bats nesting in the farmhouse roof. Brook has applied for the right to construct bat boxes for the creatures in the Grade II listed building’s chimney.
Brook has already spent 12 years working on the Tudor country home and surrounding gardens that were in a state of considerable neglect when purchased. The celebrity’s efforts have been noted by her 967,000 followers on social media, with results earning her a reputation for green fingers.
The restoration project Brook refers to as a “labour of love” has seen the property returned to display its original age. Working closely with an architect, she stripped the house back to reveal its timber frame work and beams. Creating a rustic style of shabby chic, many of the spacious rooms feature open fireplaces and there are traditional cast iron tubs in the bathrooms.
While idyllic and respectful of its origins, Brook has commented that the home is designed to run efficiently when it comes to energy use. For this reason, she opted to heat the property throughout with underfloor heating.
The country home under renovation also has its own freshwater natural spring outside the kitchen door, along with multiple acres of pear and apple orchards. Other features include a private pool, a wildflower meadow and a walled rose garden.
